By providing families with a welcome kit that includes a grocery bag, book, store passport, and 20 tokens, the program empowers kids to select the fruits and vegetables they want to purchase and try."The importance of this is really to empower kids to buy their own produce," explains Ashley SanJulian, Health Educator for the program. "Studies have shown children that are picking out their own produce are more apt to try those items, as opposed to having someone pick it out for them. It's just really a way to help empower kids to try new fruits and vegetables that are grown by actual farmers in the area."This hands-on approach not only sparks children's interest in healthy eating but also helps them develop a deeper appreciation for the local food system. By engaging directly with the produce, kids are more likely to explore and experiment with a wider variety of fruits and vegetables, ultimately expanding their culinary horizons.

"She likes to eat a lot of different fruits and vegetables."This collaborative approach fosters a sense of ownership and investment in the family's overall well-being. As children become more engaged in the process of selecting and purchasing produce, parents and guardians can reinforce the importance of healthy eating habits, creating a positive feedback loop that benefits the entire household.
